I have an intense love affair with the sun, and my skin has been paying for it. I’m a firm believer in the adage made popular by Tupac, “The Blacker the Berry the Sweeter the Juice” and believed that I was born with built-in sun protection. I began noticing that I was developing light spots on my face. I have never had issues with my complexion, and have had the same tone since 1984, so I booked an appointment with a dermatologist to figure out why I was turning into a reverse Dalmatian.
The diagnosis: sunburn. The doctor could not believe that I have been going for years without using daily sunscreen to protect my skin. Ashamed of my neglect, I admitted that I only used sunscreen during beach trips. This means that my skin was exposed to harmful rays for 95% of the year. Even when the sun is hiding behind clouds or shrouded by winter, its rays can cause damage.
She made me promise that I would use a facial moisturizer with sunscreen and recommended that I try Cerave AM to put up a barrier between my face and UVA/UVB rays.
I have been using it for a few weeks now and notice that my face is much softer and I love the fact that it’s not greasy and has a matte finish. I don’t like to wear much make-up, so using a moisturizer that goes on matte allows me to walk around bare-faced without looking like I’ve been playing in bacon grease.
I have learned my lesson and am changing my spots. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist the corny pun.)
